Dear Sir or Madam,

August 2001 Greetings from "Russian St. Petersburg" and from Peter, our young tireless traveller. He just came to St.Petersburg this summer, and has been busy exploring the city, running between its numerous museums and exhibitions, theatres and festivals during the day and its clubs and bars at night. He is a modern traveller so he is trying not to miss a thing.

He's here now to tell you the most exciting news about the city.

But first, Peter needs to learn some Russian to stop from getting into trouble, and make the most of his time here.

Russian Lessons from Peter
Or how not to get lost in St.Petersburg:

Ok, let's get started. The first thing our Peter needed to know in Russia is how to greet people who seem to be everywhere on Peter's way.

The most common way to greet people, mostly used in official and semi-official situations is "Zdrastvuite". It sounds a little hard at first but it will get better as you practice. In an informal situation though, especially with young people, it is better to say "Privet" ("Hi" in Russian).

More Russian lessons from Peter in our future Newsletters!

Of course, Peter hasn't forgotten to check out the news in his favorite travel company that helped him organize everything for his trip to St.Petersburg. Here are the most interesting deals that he found for this month.

St.Petersburg happenings:

As always, life is going fast for Peter in St.Petersburg.

On Sunday, July 01 he was watching the Presidents of Russia and France, Jacques Chirac and Vladimir Putin have their informal meeting. Our VIP guest, the President of France, enjoyed the exhibition of Pierre Soulage at the Hermitage museum, concert of Tchaikovsky and Ravel music in the Shostakovich Philharmonic, and finally, fishing at the Russkaya Ribalka (Russian Fishing) restaurant.

*****

May 31, 2001 This was a great day for our city and for Peter, of course. Opening of the first Vodka Museum in Russia! The exhibition includes: the long history of this drink and its role in Russian history, the most famous vodka producing companies, and vodka tasting for visitors over 18.

*****

Don't forget, our Peter put a BIG reminder next to his bed, this is the best time to visit the Hermitage: From July 03 to September 16, 2001 - wonderful exhibition "Masterpieces of the World's Museums in the Hermitage". A great chance to see some of the world's best works of art all at one place!

*****

Well, of course Peter has come here to travel and to relax. But how could he miss the biggest fair of the year:

FEDERAL AGRO-INDUSTRIAL FAIR
"RUSSIAN FARMER-2001"
from August 27 till September 2, 2000!

The widest representation of the agricultural and agriculture related business in Russia, plus great Russian folk show, games and competitions, and traditions of Russian almost extreme celebrations.

*****

15 august 2001 - Exclusive Concert: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London is playing in Ledovyi Dvorets ("Ice Palace").  The best songs of "The Beatles" performed by one of the world's best orchestras, and presented by George Martin, their legendary producer.

*****

Another great event that impressed even our tough guy, Peter was "ROSES PARADE" Flower International Festival, held in the Pavilions of Pavlovsky Park on August 04-05, 2001. The show included the restoration of historic flowerbeds, a flower-arranging competition, a procession of floats decorated with flowers, exhibitions of roses, a floral ball, a flower firework display and a great deal more.

*****

Radisson SAS New Hotel Opened! Not that Peter wanted to move there, but who can miss the big news. Always looking for something new, he went to watch the opening ceremony, see all the prominent guests, and, of course, check out the rooms and services for future travelling. "Very fine hotel", thought our hero, truly impressed with the services and interiors.

*****

And, yes, On September 01, 2001 Peter is going to go crazy. He is going to Moscow - for the famous "LOVE PARADE" that has finally made its way to Russia. The biggest techno-dance festival will be held in Moscow first time, as a part of the city anniversary celebration! The festival's aims are to promote love, peace and techno music all around the world.
