Dear Sir or Madam,
September has finally turned down all our dreams of
endless summer. But in fact, life is getting more and more
interesting in St.Petersburg after its' all permanent residents are back
from summer vacations. That was a pleasant surprise for Peter, our little
hero, who is having his big trip to St.Petersburg, and still trying to see
and do as much as possible.
He has joined us now to tell you the most exciting news
about the city and his adventures in Russia. But, of course, communication
with locals is the key so we have continued with
Russian Lessons from Peter
Or how not to get lost in St.Petersburg:
Remember, last time we met I just learned how to say
"Hello" in Russian. Indeed, that has been very helpful in my attempts to get to know more people while
in Russia. But I soon realized
that this was getting me into even bigger trouble sometimes because, well,
I knew how to start a conversation but did not know how to end one. A
couple of sleepless nights in a bar because I did not know what to say to stop
a conversation... So I have decided that I need to study Russian a little bit more
intensively. Here is what I learned by now:
The way to say "Good-Bye" in official and
semi-official situations is "Do Svidanya". In informal situations
most people prefer to say "Paka" ("Bye" in Russian). If
you are leaving someone when it's pretty late or just getting close to
dark, you can also say "Spakoynai nochi" which
simply means "Good night" in Russian.
More Russian lessons from Peter in our future Newsletters!
Of course, I have been spending
quite a bit of time in the offices of my favorite travel company that helped
me organize everything for my trip
to St.Petersburg. They are cool guys and always have some interesting
offers. And here is what I found out!!!

St.Petersburg happenings:
I was a little afraid that when the summer is over where wouldn't be as
many things to do. It was a nice surprise to know that I was wrong! New
season has brought the new life, new faces and great many of various
festivals in this city. Life is starting to move faster and faster.
|
Big News!!! Together with "Russian St.Petersburg Tours", I think this will be interesting to all my
friends and, of course, anyone who is thinking of coming to Russia.
The Russian Government is now planning to introduce the new "Easy
Visa" rule for visitors who are planning to stay in Russia
for 72 hours or less. The visas will be issues right at the
airport as long as you have filled in the application form at least
48 hours prior to your departure from you home country. Let's hope
that this system will be implemented shortly!

September 01 - as I just found out this is the Happiest and
the Saddest day for all Russian
children. The day when another endless school year starts. But also
the day when they meet all their friends after summer vacation
again. Our greetings to all children of St.Petersburg and Russia, and our
best wishes for their year at school.

You know, I haven't even noticed how I turned into theatre lover and the biggest fan of theatrical premiers. But this
has happened... And now, yeah, I'm looking forward to October 05 when XI Internaitonal Theatre Festival, "Baltic House"
starts. Theatres from some 19 countries will present their most
interesting and unique performances, all under the theme "The
Teacher and the Student".
XI International Theatre Festival, "Baltic House"
will be held in
St.Petersburg, October 05-14
still enough time to join Peter there!

The famous Peterhof Fountains have been my favorite place the whole
summer. Well, first of all, it is so close in spelling to my own
name... Plus, in this romantic place I met my beautiful friend
(Sue). And now September 28th is going to be a double
celebration for us: Celebration of the Peterhof Fountains in
the Peterhof Museum, and one-month anniversary of our
meeting!

British Council Highlands Games!
"Russian St. Petersburg" team told me
about this great opportunity to see some real Scottish dancing, and
a unique chance to enjoy the Scottish bagpipers. The Heavies in
their turn will give a wonderful performance for those who are fond
of sports!

And when I heard of the 8th City Festival of Street Musicians
"Singing Nevsky", I suddenly remembered how much I
wanted to sing on the streets when I was younger... Much younger
when I am now. I probably won't be singing on the streets at this
point. But I will definitely go to Nevsky Prospect, the main street
of St.Petersburg to see people who have came from all over Russia
sing and play some great
music on September 16th, 2001.

Although "Formula
1" is not in Russia yet, I don't miss it too much
because St.Petersburg offers many alternative race/ rally
events. I even started to really like Formula 3 as well
as Russian Cap Championship. And on October 07th there
is going to be one of the biggest events of the year!
International Motor Racing Championship on
"Neva Ring" route
On October 07 - No one can miss some real racing on real
cars!

Something that I thought
will be interesting to see even though I am here for fun,
not for business. How could I miss the best representation
of all Russian Fur Trading Companies and Fur Goods. If
you are interested too, stop by the
Fair "Intermech" (Interfur)
on September 11-14th
which will be held as a part of the overall
"Textile and Fashion - St.Petersburg" Exhibition. Other
specialized exhibitions will include: "St.Petersburg Hat
Salon", "Footwear, leather goods", "From textile
to pret-a-porte" and others.

This is something I could never expect when I was
going to Russian. As far from Latin America as it can get, the 4th International Festival of Latin
American Culture is coming on October 01-04 to this
northern city! Great Latino Music, Endless Dancing, and, of course,
many beautiful dancers in the JFC Jazz Club.

Guess what! This made me
really happy to know that one of my favorite bands,
"Depeche Mode", is playing here in St.Petersburg
on September 18th! Tickets are now available.
But probably not for long... |

And Finally, for all of
you who, just like me, cannot imagine their life without
football (or soccer as you would call it in North America),
I would like to let you know that the St.Petersburg local
Football Team "Zenith" has been doing
really great in Russia's national cap. And it's
now on the 2nd position so far! Good luck in the
future games, guys, and I would definitely advise you
to watch then playing when you're in St.Petersburg! |
