Dear Sir or Madam,

This month we are a little late with our newsletter because Peter has been travelling the Baikal lake region, he went on one of those extreme tours, you know, ice driving, hiking, fishing, simply enjoying the nature, wildlife and snow! But he's now back, and we all, Peter Russian St.Petersburg and EducaCentre Teams are happy to greet you again. By the way, Happy Valentine's day too all of you!!! And good luck to your national team in Salt Lake too!!!

Russian Lessons from Peter
Or how not to get lost in St.Petersburg:

Hey, my virtual friends. With this Valentine's day on the way, I  really wanted to tell my girlfriend how much I loved her in Russian. Even thought she probably wouldn't understand... It's the feelings that matter. And then I though that you, guys, may be interested too. Just imagine, early in the morning you come to your beloved one and say "I love you" but in Russian! At least they'll appreciate the effort.

Well, I hope I've convinced you by now, so let's get back to our lesson. "I love you" in Russian will be: "Ya Tebya Ljublju". And if you want to say "I love you very much", say "Ya Tebya Ochen' Ljublju"! Just if you are curious, a good reply would be: "Ya Tebya Tozhe" which means "I love you too"! Might be a good idea to say it to our beloved ones every day, not only on the Valentine's day...

More Russian lessons from Peter in our future Newsletters!

St.Petersburg happenings:

The end of January and the first week of February have been unusually warm here in St.Petersburg. I haven't really decided whether it's good or bad for me as a visitor though... I was away for most part of it, and now, when I am back, it starts snowing again. Just the way it should be in the winter.

Valentine's day in St.Petersburg!!! Romantic holiday in a romantic city... Well, always something for those looking for more fun too . Kissing and best Valentine's greeting competitions, special love parties, romantic programs in restaurants and bars, plenty of choices for anyone on this day.

The Russian version of the Museum of the Modern Art has been opened in St.Petersburg on February 9th. Of course, I went to see it, at first, simply wanted to compare it with the one in London. It turned out to be very different, but interesting in its own way. "Red Square" by Kazimir Malevich, "Maryline Monroe" by Andy Warhall, paintings by famous Russian artist "Africa" and a lot more at Pushkinskaya 10, St.Petersburg!

And guess, who's going to be the happiest man in less than a month. You, guys, know me by now. Even though it may look strange, I love ballet. I really do. And what would be better than the 2nd International Ballet Festival in Mariinsky Theatre from March 9th through March 18th? With the new production of "Cinderella" by Prokofiev? Well, maybe the "White Nights" festival in June, but that one is so long to wait for. March sounds a lot better, doesn't it?

Claude Monet in St.Petersburg! One of the year's largest exhibitions. I couldn't believe it at first that I can see almost all works by Claude Monet. This is true though, most of those works originated from the renowned collections of Sergey I. Shchukin and Ivan A. Morozov. February 12th through May 15th, 2002 you can see them too! If you come to St.Petersburg, of course.

The Netherlands has decided to join the big cultural family of St.Petersburg with opening the Netherlands Cultural Centre named after Nicolas Witsen. The centre houses specialized library, computer centre, The Art Loss Register, and simply information about the Netherlands. I've always thought that it's great to see all those corners of England, Germany, France, Finland, other countries. This definitely contributes to the feeling of being a part of International community here, and I'm glad to see one more nation be well represented in St.Petersburg.

This is not exactly the February news, but definitely something to look at. You probably know by now that in May 2003 St.Petersburg will be celebrating its 300th anniversary. Russian Web Service has opened the new web-site with information on St.Petersburg history and culture, map of the city, virtual tour of St.Petersburg, and even a chat room. Go to www.spb.300.ru if you are interested. It's only available in Russian for the moment, but English version is coming soon.
