F.M.Dostoevsky Literary-Memorial Museum

Dostoevsky Museum Among Dostoevsky's numerous Peterburg addresses, the building on the corner of Kuznechny Lane and Dostoevsky Street (formerly Yamskaya) holds particular significance. The writer moved there with his family in the beginning of October 1878 and was to reside there until the day of his death, January 28, 1881. It was in this house that many of Dostoevsky's contemporaries were to visit him, and his last novel, The Brothers Karamazov, was written. This simple, completely ordinary Petersburg apartment building, devoid of distinctive architectural features, has today become one of the most popular attractions in the city precisely because it was there that Dostoevsky lived and died.

Dostoevsky MuseumThe exhibition of the museum restores the interior of the world famous writer's latest apartment. The exhibits are the private belongings of Dostoevsky and his books. After the visit to the the museum it is reasonable to book the excursion "Petersburg of Dostoevsky" and visit the addresses of the heroes of Dostoevsky's novels "Idiot" and "Crime and Punishment".

LITERARY EXPOSITION

Dostoevsky Museum During Dostoevsky's life the rooms, where Literary exposition is situated, were occupied by common apartments, where the writer's neighbours lived a hundred years ago. The first room of the exposition is dedicated to Dostoevsky's life, the second - to the writer's five main novels.

Dostoevsky MuseumThe exposition begins with a unique exhibit - the map of Dostoevsky's Petersburg, realized on Museum's order by a Petersburg artist Boris Kostygov. Addresses marked on the map are those of Dostoevsky and his characters living in Petersburg, and the labels bordering the map present enlarged images of these houses.

Dostoevsky MuseumIn the Room 1 materials for Dostoevsky's biography and creative work from 1821 to 1864 are presented. The exposition is organized upon the principle of "corners": every new period of Dostoevsky's life represents a new "corner" of the exposition. In the Room 2 materials are presented related to the next period of the writer's life and creative work - from 1865 to 1881.

Dostoevsky MuseumFaithfully reconstructed, the apartment is full of photos, drawings and documents telling about Dostoyevsky's life, his literary heritage, his impact on the world's culture.
